This month’s topic is Recognizing the Various Forms of Anti-Semitism, featuring Gary Jones, Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut.
Gary Jones is a non-profit executive and attorney who is proud to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut.
The Jewish Federation is the home office and lead voice of the diverse Jewish communities residing in Western and Northwestern Connecticut. It works to unite and lift up all of the Jewish organizations in our part of the State.
During his many years as a practicing attorney in Hartford, Waterbury and Farmington, Gary served on the Boards of numerous charitable community organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and Hebrew Senior Care.
Gary entered the nonprofit professional world 13 years ago when he became the Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Connecticut Regional Office. In that capacity, he oversaw the League’s efforts to fight prejudice, monitor and expose extremist groups, promote civil rights and build bridges of understanding among diverse groups within the Region.
During his tenure, the Connecticut Regional Office was Connecticut’s recipient of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award. In addition, Gary was named one of 15 annual “Movers and Shakers” in the Connecticut Jewish Community by the Connecticut Jewish Ledger.
Gary has also served as the Interim President and CEO of Hebrew Senior Care, the nonprofit senior care facility based in West Hartford, Connecticut. Gary was hired to manage Hebrew Senior Care after it filed for bankruptcy protection in order to manage the facility and work with its employees, community supporters and governmental entities until it successfully reorganized and would be in a position to hire an experienced hospital administrator.
Gary also served as the Interim Executive Director of Hillel at the University of Connecticut.
During his tenure as Regional Director of ADL and continuing thereafter, Gary has spoken regularly around the State on Antisemitism, Israel, extremism and religious liberty.Gary received his Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University and his Juris Doctor from New York University. He and his wife Jill reside in West Hartford, Connecticut.
